Terms of Service

Effective May 19, 2026

The short version

  • Discito is an iOS flashcard app. Lite is free with unlimited cards and iCloud sync. Pro is $14.99 once, lifetime, Family Sharing included.
  • Your data lives in your iCloud, not on a Discito server. You're responsible for keeping your iCloud account in good standing.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple via the App Store. We can't process refunds directly because we never see your payment.
  • Discito is provided as-is. We try to make it great, but we're a small indie developer and you're responsible for your own study outcomes.

1. Acceptance of terms ¶

By downloading, installing, or using Discito, you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree to them, please don't use the app. Apple's standard App Store Terms of Service also apply to your download and any in-app purchase you make.

2. The Discito app and service ¶

Discito is a native iOS flashcard application that uses the FSRS-6 spaced-repetition algorithm. It comes in two tiers:

  • Discito Lite is free. It includes unlimited cards and decks, full FSRS-6 scheduling, multi-device iCloud sync, the Q&A card template, audio playback, Markdown rendering, .apkg and CSV import, CSV export, four bundled starter decks, basic streak tracking, and 30-day statistics.
  • Discito Pro unlocks the advanced features: cloze and basic-reverse templates, image occlusion authoring, LaTeX rendering, the FSRS-6 personalized optimizer, all on-device AI features (card generation, image generation, lecture audio to flashcards, smart quiz distractors), Home Screen widgets, Lock Screen Live Activity, Control Center button, notification micro-reviews, type-the-answer / MCQ / True-False quiz modes, .apkg export, unlimited statistics history, and the weekly report.

Discito Pro is sold as a single non-consumable in-app purchase. There is no subscription. The purchase is permanent for your Apple ID and is shared with your Family Sharing group at no extra cost.

3. What Discito does not provide ¶

So expectations are clear:

  • No server-side storage. Your data lives in your iCloud, which is a service contract between you and Apple. Discito does not operate any server that stores your decks, cards, or review history.
  • No data backup service. You are responsible for keeping your iCloud account active and for ensuring that iCloud Backup is enabled if you want belt-and-suspenders protection. If you lose access to your Apple ID, we cannot recover your Discito data.
  • No web app or desktop app. Discito is iOS-only at launch. There is no web client, no Android app, and no macOS app. An Apple Watch companion is planned for a post-launch release.
  • Best-effort support, not enterprise SLAs. Discito is built by a small indie developer. We answer email at hello@discito.app and we take bug reports seriously, but we don't promise a guaranteed response time. We are not a service you should rely on for life-critical scheduling.

4. Pricing and refunds ¶

Discito Pro is $14.99 USD, one time, during the founder-pricing period through the end of 2026. Starting in 2027, the price goes to $19.99. Anyone who buys at the founder price keeps Pro forever at no additional charge. Local currency pricing is set by Apple's App Store automatically based on your storefront.

Refunds are handled exclusively by Apple. Discito never sees your payment information and has no mechanism to process refunds directly. If you want a refund, request one through Apple's standard process:

  • Visit reportaproblem.apple.com on the web, or
  • Open the email receipt Apple sent after your purchase and tap "Report a Problem".

Apple reviews each refund request under its App Store refund policy. We don't influence that decision either way.

5. Acceptable use ¶

Don't do any of the following:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app, except to the extent your local law gives you a right to do so that we cannot lawfully restrict.
  • Try to circumvent the Pro entitlement gate or share Pro features with people outside your Family Sharing group through technical means.
  • Use the on-device AI features to generate content that is illegal where you live, or that targets, harasses, or endangers other people. The inference runs on your device — but that's not a license to do whatever. Be a person.
  • Use Discito in any way that violates Apple's App Store Terms.

6. Anki and open-source attribution ¶

Discito implements FSRS-6, an open-source spaced-repetition algorithm developed by the Open Spaced Repetition project. Our implementation is bit-exact with the py-fsrs reference implementation. Gratitude to the FSRS researchers and contributors for making the modern spaced-repetition category possible.

Discito can read and write the .apkg file format originated by Anki, the open-source spaced-repetition app created by Damien Elmes. Discito is not affiliated with Anki, AnkiWeb, AnkiMobile, AnkiPro, or any other Anki-named project. We use the file format for interoperability, with respect and gratitude to the Anki community.

A full list of open-source software used in Discito is available in the app at Settings → About → Credits & Licenses.

7. Intellectual property ¶

The Discito name, brand, app icon, marketing copy, and the proprietary parts of the iOS app source code are the property of the developer of Discito. You're granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as defined in Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement.

You retain full ownership of any cards, decks, notes, images, audio, or other content you create or import into Discito. Discito claims no rights over your study material.

8. Disclaimer of warranties ¶

Discito is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, either express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We don't warrant that Discito is suitable for any specific outcome. That includes — but isn't limited to — passing an academic exam, achieving a professional certification, learning a language to fluency, or any medical, legal, financial, or licensure use. Spaced repetition is a useful study tool; what you do with it is up to you. Your learning outcomes are your responsibility.

9. Limitation of liability ¶

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Discito and its developer are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, loss of study progress, missed deadlines, or learning outcomes that fall short of what you'd hoped for.

Our total liability to you for any claim relating to Discito is capped at the greater of the amount you actually paid us for the app (which is $14.99 if you bought Pro, or $0 if you use Lite) and the minimum amount your local law requires us to be liable for.

Some jurisdictions don't allow the disclaimer of certain warranties or the limitation of liability for certain damages. In those jurisdictions, the disclaimers and limits above apply only to the extent permitted.

10. Governing law ¶

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of [STATE PLACEHOLDER], United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of these terms or your use of Discito that isn't resolvable directly between us will be brought in the state or federal courts located in [STATE PLACEHOLDER], and you and we both consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable rights you may have under the consumer-protection laws of the country or region where you live.

11. Changes to these terms ¶

We may update these terms if our practices change or to clarify wording. When we do, the Effective date at the top will move forward and the new version will be posted here. For any material change, we'll show an in-app notice the next time you open Discito, before the change takes effect. Continued use of the app after the change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.

12. Contact ¶
